6 Ways to Show Your Thanks to Loved Ones This Thanksgiving

November 9, 2018 | By Daniel Dewitt

We all know Thanksgiving is a holiday about showing those we love just how much we love them, but sometimes the actual steps to do that can be unclear. Which is exactly why we’re here today!

After all the Turkey is eaten and the party's over, how do you give back? Here are six concrete ways to thank your loved ones this Thanksgiving.

Tell Them

This is such a simple idea that most people don’t even think about, but we often take it for granted that those we value know how much we value them when the truth is that they often don’t.

A huge amount of communication is nonverbal, but an equally large portion is verbal. You have to remember that no one can read your mind and if you don’t say something, other people won’t pick up on it at all.

Write a Card

If talking isn’t your thing, you can always slip or send a note to a loved one, thanking them for all they’ve done throughout the year and how much you appreciate it. Your local drugstore is sure to have a wall of cards you can pick out, or you can simply write it on a blank card if that seems too kitschy or insincere.

Give Them an Online Shout Out

Not a fan of dead-tree communication? Pick your preferred social media platform and post a gif, picture, or just caption that lets the person you love know how you feel. Just be sure not to do this to a friend or family member who’s shy, as they’ll likely just be embarrassed by the display.

Give A Gift

Gifts don’t have to be restricted to just Christmas and birthdays. A Thanksgiving gift is a way of showing someone you appreciate them as a person. It doesn’t have to be a big gift either: even something just small and thoughtful will get the message across and no doubt be appreciated by the person receiving it.

Help Out for a Day

Getting through the day-to-day of life can be surprisingly difficult, and sometimes the best way to show your appreciation for someone is to shoulder a little of that burden.

Babysitting, doing the dishes, or cutting the lawn are all small gestures, but ones that go a long way. Studies show that something as simple as doing dishes can be the difference between a happy and unhappy marriage.

Cook a Great Turkey

And we saved the best for last. Inviting all of your friends and family and throwing a great Thanksgiving party with creamy mashed potatoes, golden corn, and mouth-watering turkey is the most traditional way of showing your appreciation for those around you.

It can be tricky to pull off without resorting to a payday loan, but for the consummate or aspiring chef, there’s no better way to celebrate Thanksgiving.
